Being energy conscious starts with education, in order for us to truly understand why load
shedding is experienced we need to understand the sources of energy required to produced
electricity. Building a generation of scientist, technologists, engineers and mathematicians is
needed to help develop our communities and create jobs. But how do we introduce the
learners to these professions and get them interested in studying towards degrees that will
get them into the industry?

We all cannot be employees, there just isn’t enough jobs for all of
us. We need to create jobs, and this starts with educating ourselves and our youth on the
basics of how everything we used in this modern world is related to energy resources in one
way or the other, particularly natural gas, coal and oil. Boitumelo is building a brand to
become an influential Energy Conscious Social Entrepreneur. With her science
communicator and petroleum industry experiences, she aims at running energy awareness
workshops, give career guidance and energy efficiency talks, be a science communicator
and a mentor to the youth and young graduates looking at empowering themselves and their
communities.

South Africa is in need of more young people to study and enter the field of Engineering and
Science particularly women and the previously disadvantaged. The general population is
not well informed on the role they play in saving energy, how they can save energy and how
they can create alternative energy. Boitumelo sees the need to educate South African
disadvantaged communities on using energy responsibly and creating their own energy with
resources within their disposal

South Africa is in need of more young people(especially since we make up 64% of the country’s population) to study and enter the field of Engineering and Science particularly women and the previously disadvantaged. The general population is not well informed on the role they play in saving energy, how they can save energy and how they can create alternative energy.
